The Committee
CBSC Committee 2011/12 Season
Your Committee for the forthcoming season are:
Sarah Hopkins, Graeme Prance, Stuart Barter, Joe Winton, Catherine Smart, Emma Walker, Jennie Hobbs and Kevin Fitzgerald
Many thanks to Greg Harrison and Becky McLean for their time on the committee last season - we will all miss them but look forward to seeing them at Cardiff Blues games and our events.
Sarah Hopkins was re-elected as our Chairperson at the CBSC 2010/11 AGM in July. The remaining roles and responsibilities were allocated amongst the Committee at our August meeting.
Chairperson - Sarah Hopkins
Sarah is 34 and lives in Cardiff with her Newport supporting husband. She works for a utility company as the Head of Human Resources which keeps her extremely busy in her life outside of rugby.
Sarah's parents introduced her to rugby as a small child when she was taken to watch her dad play for the Civil Service Club in Leckwith.
She has been a season ticket holder of Cardiff RFC and the Blues since returning to Cardiff from university where she studied Business Management. As well as the Blues, Sarah loves travel, eating out, drinking wine and her two cats.
Graeme Prance - Travel
Graeme is a 43 year old, married, self employed kitchen & bathroom specialist born and bred in Cardiff.
He coordinates our away travel and was spotted last season sporting a blue 'Tito' wig. Apart from rugby Graeme enjoys playing golf, badminton and snooker.
Joe Winton - Membership
Joe 'Woody' Winton is statistician and spends too much of his time puzzling his way through algebra! Despite what you might think Joe is far less dull than his job makes him sound!
Although a newcomer to the Blues - and an Englishman! - he compensates for this flaw with piles of enthusiasm. He has now taken over the role of Memberships as well as Junior Members.
When not watching rugby, Joe can be found in one of Cardiff's many fine drinking establishments or relaxing in the Bay.
Stuart Barter - Communications/Twitter
Cardiff born and bred, now living on the Costa Del Penarth.
Stu discovered rugby at the age of 12, the first match he attended was actually Llanelli v Neath in the 1988 Schweppes Cup Final. Having seen the error of his ways and discovered Cardiff had its own rugby side, he attended Cardiff RFC games on and off for several years until work took him overseas (well across the border to England). A former "world class" loosehead prop and average hooker. World class in his own mind at least.
Married to Sue with a Cardiff Blues supporting daughter called Millie, Stu recently agreed to coach her U6's rugby team!
Catherine Smart - Treasurer
Catherine grew up in the Vale of Glamorgan, living in Cardiff for over 15 years. She is a self employed Overseas Property Investor having previously worked for many years in Management.
Catherine has been an avid fan of rugby since her youth supporting Dinas Powys RFC and has been a season ticket holder of Cardiff RFC and the Blues for longer than she'd like to remember!!
When not involved in work or rugby, Cath likes to spend her time travelling, learning Welsh, zumba'ing, drinking wine and shopping!!
Emma Walker - Secretary
Emma is 29 and lives in Caerphilly.
She was converted to rugby 6 years ago when she became a keen Cardiff Blues supporter and has never looked back since. Emma is very passionate about Welsh rugby and the Blues and is always very vocal on match days.
She works in Medicine for Cardiff University which can be very stressful. To help her relax she enjoys going to the cinema, dining out, shopping, as well as practicing special effects make up on her ever obliging partner.
Jennie Hobbs - Events Officer
Jennie is originally from England (Boo) though has lived in Wales (Yay) for over 20 years. She supports Wales unless they play England but she is a big Blues supporter so we will try and forgive her for the error of her ways. She has been supported the Blues for four years and has been a member of CBSC since the beginning.
In her day job she is, Meetings & Events Sales Manager for The Parc (Thistle) and has been working in Hotels and Sales roles 6 years now so puts her in good stead to be Events Officer.
Jennie is a real people person and she enjoys meeting new people and making new friends. She is looking forward to meeting all our members; I’m sure with open arms.
Kevin Fitzgerald - Website/Facebook
Kevin is 32 and is from Mountain Ash. He is a support worker for the homeless and has been living in Cardiff for 12 years.
He grew up supporting Abercynon RFC and when he was a lad you would see him every year at the Schweppes Cup Final, one year in Red (Llanelli) and the next in Black (Neath). He had no problem switching alliances as a young boy as his passion was for the game, however today he's blue through and through unless he's cheering on his beloved homeland, Wales. Every 2 years he supports his countrymen in bonny Scotland, showing the Scots how the Welsh drink in the process!
He is very excited to have joined the CBSC committee this season and he is looking forward to what the future holds. You will often find him in the Ninian Pub before and after the games.
